DaylightRx is a prescription app from Big Health that treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) with cognitive behavioral therapy. Instead of a weekly appointment with a therapist, you work through short video and audio lessons on your phone. The FDA cleared it in 2024, and it was the first digital treatment cleared specifically for GAD.
How it works
The program walks you through the same CBT techniques a therapist would use for anxiety:
- Cognitive restructuring, which means catching anxious thoughts and testing them
- Stimulus control and applied relaxation
- Imaginal exposure, where you face the thing you worry about in a controlled way
It is meant for adults 22 and older, and a licensed provider has to prescribe it. You can’t just download it from the app store and start.
Does it actually work?
In Big Health’s randomized trial, 71% of people using DaylightRx reached remission from GAD, compared to 35% in the control group, and the results held at six months. That is a company-run study, so take it with the usual grain of salt, but it’s a big gap.
Cost and coverage
Medicare started covering digital mental health treatments like this in January 2025. Commercial insurance and Medicaid coverage depends on your plan. Big Health also makes SleepioRx for insomnia, which works the same way.
Why I saved it: therapy waitlists are long, and this is one of the few apps in the space with FDA clearance and real trial data behind it rather than just a nice interface.
